If I decide to join – what’s involved?
Joining Rostrum City Breakfast Club is easy. Ask anyone for a membership form which can easily be completed in 2 minutes. The form needs to be accompanied by payment of $112.50 which covers joining fee, 6 months membership and your kit. The kit comprises a current syllabus, a copy of “Take The Chair”, your name badge and a copy of the club booklet. For subsequent terms (6 monthly) the membership falls to $90.
Once your membership is received we will schedule your induction to the club within a couple of weeks. At this brief ceremony you will be inducted as a full member of the club.

What happens at a Rostrum meeting?
The meeting starts promptly at 7am and over the next 75 minutes there are a number of items which cover Club news, practised and impromptu speeches and other fun items. One of the first speeches a new member will give is called an “About Me” and it is a 3 minute spot in which the new member can tell us a bit about their life, interests, family or friends.
Most meetings have a period of what’s termed “General Business”. This is a lively and very practical segment where it teaches us how to chair and handle meetings in an efficient and expedient way.
For anyone who has to chair meetings or attend P&C meetings or sits on a committee this will be especially useful.

What is a Rostrum Critic?
A Rostrum Critic is a trained Rostrum member (usually from another club) who spends 10 – 15 minutes at the end of the meeting and summarises the good and not so good techniques used. In this summary every speaker gets helpful, positive and practical help on how to be a better speaker or presenter.

What if I’m very nervous?
If you are nervous Rostrum City Breakfast Club is the perfect place to come! We have so many examples of new members who overcame their nervous disposition and went on to become competent speakers. Look at the testimonial section and you’ll see how in a few short months a non confident, nervous speaker can be transformed into a more confident and practiced speaker.

How do I join?
The best way to join Rostrum is to come along as a visitor. There is no obligation to join and this way you can get a feel of how the meetings run without the pressure of having to give a speech, although you are more than welcome to participate if you feel comfortable.
You can either just show up at the meeting in the morning or if you prefer you can give us a call, at least this way you won't feel like you are walking into a room of total strangers.
